Seniors in Schools is a ten-year-old award-winning program involving senior citizens who volunteer in Newark schools. They can be found tutoring children, sharing special interests, listening to children read, helping out in the school office or library, or helping a teacher. The time is arranged to suit the convenience of the volunteer. If you are a senior, or know a senior who is interested in volunteering, contact Mona Walker, 510.797.2703, for more information.

What is TEAM?

TEAM (Tutoring, Educating, Assisting, and Mentoring) is a community based mentoring program run by the Newark Unified School District . 

The goal of TEAM is to match interested members of the community with students at Newark Memorial High School who need to pass the California High School Exit Exam (CAHSEE).

How Does TEAM Work?

·         TEAM members will work in small groups with students in either Language Arts or math using State approved CAHSEE intervention materials.

·         TEAM members will have access to quality coaches (teachers) who will be there to assist.

 To qualify for the TEAM?

·         TEAM members must want to help a student succeed.

·         TEAM members need to commit to one hour once a week.

Time Required

·         English Language Arts

·         Wednesday 7:45am – 8:30am

·         Thursday 12:15pm  – 1:00pm

OR

·         Math

·        Thursday 7:00am – 7:40am

Will there be TEAM  Training?

Before playing (mentoring) TEAM members will attend pre-season training (pre-mentoring).  At this training TEAM members will become familiar with the materials.  Once actual play (mentoring) begins TEAM members will be under the guidance of a coach (teacher).

Businesses and

 Service Organizations

Business can become terrific TEAM members by allowing employees the release time to participate in TEAM sessions. 

Service Organizations can participate by adopting Newark Memorial High School as a service project and encouraging their members to become TEAM Members.
